Piotr NYKIEL was born in 1971 in Krakow, Poland. He graduated from the Department of Turkish Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow in 1996 (the subject of his MA thesis was "The Naval Operations in the Dardanelles 1914-1915"). In January 2007 he has got his PhD in history (the subject of his PhD thesis was "The war in the Aegean - August, 1914 - March, 1915").
   He translated several military books (from English to Polish) and is an author or co-author of following articles and books about the Ottoman Empire in WW1 and about Polish-Turkish relations (in Polish, English and Turkish):

   In 1997/98 received a research scholarship of the Turkish Government. In 2000-2004 he worked as the Second Secretary (for Culture, Promotion and Political Affaires) of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ankara, Turkey. His present occupation is the instructor at the Department of Turkish Studies at Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland.
